When you work freelance, the importance of optimizing the workflow is vital to grow professionally and financially and on the other hand, maintaining mental health. Not always possible, obviously there will be external factors against our attempt to organize so that all work “oiled”.
Here are some tips and tricks for better Attempts to combine all of our expectations without fail the customer delays.
Optimize and customize work environment
If you’re taking the first steps as a freelance designer this is a critical issue that we predict before starting any work. The same can be split into two: the practical environment and actual environment.
Practical: There is nothing more boring than not having the necessary tools to tackle a job. The search, download, install it (hoping that all these steps go fast) we can take vital time for the project, so my suggestion is to be installed or at least in our power (all design programs that we think necessary for any work that may arise. Whether installed, on CD or executable on your machine, the information should be organized.
On the other hand, the organization of application shortcuts and folders is also important, because although you think you can not take much to find “your PC” what you want, it often happens that we spent some time browsing between folders to see where we keep that blessed file. To this point, something I personally used dropbox, which lets you add with just drag and drop and giving quick access to documents and applications they use most.
Actual: It’s not the same work in a clean desktop with room to support the documentation of our client to have to be making room between the papers, buying tickets, toys for our son (if we work at home is often the case) Two cups of coffee grounds and an ashtray full of butts. We must set a limit and that we and the rest of the people to see your desktop as a place to respect.
But one who knows me must be thinking: “Do as I say and not as I do” … it is true, most of the time my actual environment is not worthy of such. But I do not mean to be cranky … the times I’ve been able to reach the real environment model proposed things have gone quicker.
Begin work researching and sketching
Surely the desire to do our best work takes us more than once to start them on the PC, and that can lead to a dead end where the frustration is the first feeling that we will return your feet on the ground.
Before we begin our work probably do some research about the product or service, so that we can focus our work with knowledge of the subject.
On the other hand, sketching with pencil and paper is something that many escape, probably because they have not tried yet … or had been little effort. To be a little more clear about the benefits that brings this step, let’s see as follows:
Having researched the product of my new project, I reverse the creative part, where no limit or no idea … all can serve. With the pencil and paper, being a good artist or not I can “sketch” quickly and without losing the creative thread. By contrast, more skilled than I do on Photoshop, I will delay some things, cut the process and the brilliant idea that had possibly been lost among many others. No one did this happen?
List and priorities tasks
This is a good exercise that helps to organize and do not fly in production time. At the end of the day, open the text editor we use and list all the tasks that remain outstanding on the project for the next day. Try to put all of them, but we know that not enough hours to complete.
After that we will give priority to each one of them and sort the list. Planning in this way our day we do not spend time thinking and trying to remember which was what we should do.
With these three tips will surely succeed in improving and optimizing our time and workflow. You might add another tip based on experience..
